"STRIP" METHOD VS. NEOGRAFT - OLD VS. NEW
The traditional method of hair transplantation has been considered to be barbaric by those patients who have had the procedure performed. The "strip" method, is an uncomfortable procedure which takes months to recover with significant downtime.
In this procedure, a large strip of skin and hair is removed from the patient's scalp. This donor section is then cut into hundreds of individual pieces to harvest the hair follicles which are then inserted into areas of hair loss. The patient is then faced with significant linear scarring in the donor area. Due to the scars, wearing a short haircut is no longer an option for these patients. Additionally, patients can also experience significant numbness and prolonged pain in the donor site. The strip method also limits the number of procedures an individual can have. Typically, after two procedures, the scalp gets very tight which proposes a problem when attempting to harvest more strips for future procedures. Because the process of hair loss is progressive, as a person's hair recedes, more grafts are needed. With the strip method, you can run out of skin on the back of the scalp. Unfortunately, these are facts that are seldom revealed to patients.

Victor M. Otero, M.D.
Thomas E. Young, M.D. is the Owner and Medical Director of Young Medical Spa®. He began performing SmartLipo™ soon after it's FDA approval and was the first physician to introduce awake tumescent laser liposuction to the Lehigh Valley. He has extensive training from across the Country with the World's foremost leaders in body sculpting, fat transfer and stem cell procedures.
Dr. Young was the first physician to perform Vaser® Lipo, SlimLipo™, Stem Cell Enriched Fat Transfer Natural Breast Augmentation, Stem Cell Face Lift and Brazilian Butt Lift procedures in the region and trains other physicians in awake tumescent liposuction.
Dr. Young performs approximately 25-40 procedures per month identifying him as the most experienced awake tumescent liposuction physician in the region. As of May 2011, he had performed over 1300 procedures and is a Speaker for the SlimLipo™ body sculpting laser.
Victor M. Otero, M.D. was born in New York City and is Board Certified in Family Medicine. He relocated to the Lehigh Valley in 1998 and began his training in aesthetic medicine in 2004.
Dr. Otero conducts complimentary consultations for all of Young Medical Spa's® treatments and procedures. At the Lansdale location, he performs SmartLipo™ laser body sculpting, IPL Photo Facial Rejuvenation, Laser Hair Removal, Botox® and dermal filler injections, and sclerotherapy treatments. Additionally, Dr. Otero supervises patients participating in the Young hCG Diet Program for weight loss.
Dr. Otero is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Physicians, American Academy of Cosmetic Family Medicine, Hispanic American Physicians Association, InterAmerican College of Physicians and
Surgeons, Associate Member of the Alumni Association of NY Medical College, American Academy of Family Physicians, Clinical Professor of Family & Community Medicine at Penn State College of Medicine, and Clinical Assistant Professor at DeSales University.
Dr. Young is double board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, is a native of the Lehigh Valley, and has been practicing medicine in the Valley for over 20 years. He has extensive experience in injectable procedures and is a Platinum Provider for Botox® and a Premier Provider for Radiesse®.
He is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, American Academy of Cosmetic Physicians, American Medical Association, and a Fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, as well as other notable associations.
